Description
The vmsIONEER system enables continuous tracking and monitoring of vessels or other moving objects in all ranges using VHF technology. The palm-sized position transmitter works reliably with AIS Class B CSTDMA (Carrier Sense Time Division Multiple Access) functionality and the Iridium® satellite network . Once activated, the vmsIONEER transmits position reports at a preset time interval to a coastal coordination center to display the current location of each fleet vessel. Standard position reporting is provided on specially adapted VHF frequencies or on regular AIS frequencies using AIS CSTDMA technology. Satellite communication via the Iridium® satellite network is also provided.

- Bidirectional SAT communication As soon as a pre-programmed distance from the coast is exceeded, the vmsIONEER unit automatically switches to SAT communication via Iridium ® satellite . AIS – based communication can be bidirectional: ship-to-SAT-to-shore and vice versa.
- Additional “Push-to-Alert” button By triggering the alarm button, an official AIS emergency message is sent on both standard AIS frequencies in addition to the regular position report in order to reach every AIS receiver within the transmission range of the vmsIONEER.
- “Who & Where” for Coastal Protection and Fleet Management: Real-time knowledge of “who and where” is crucial for both coastal fishing fleet management and coastal border security. By transmitting the device ID and additional special names, “friend or foe” identification is easily achieved.
- Geo-fencing: Weatherdock’s technology allows the creation of restricted or limited access zones. These special areas can be programmed into the device. This “geo-fencing” functionality has many applications, one of which is protecting our planet, but it is also very useful for coastal fisheries management.
- Intelligent tamper-evident solution: If the unit is stolen or tampered with, a high-tech intelligent solution triggers a flashing LED to alert the ship’s captain. A special information message is immediately sent to the control center.
- Route data storage The vmsIONEER is capable of storing waypoints of thousands of nautical miles for better transparency of activity areas in accordance with IUU guidelines.
