World’s only ATEX Zone 1 IECEx certified MOB beacon now available

Wescom Group launches the sMRT V300-XI – the world’s only ATEX Zone 1 approved beacon with IECEx certification. This means it is approved for use within hazardous areas where flammable gases may be present, such as the offshore energy, shipping, and other hazardous environments. While ATEX certification oversees Europe, IECEx certification is the internationally recognized safety standard for hazardous zones. FCC approvals are pending and are expected soon in the United States.

Similar to the V300 beacon, the V300-XI combines AIS, VHF DSC, and 121.5 MHz frequency to provide immediate distress alerting and precise MOB location tracking. With manual and water-activation after two seconds of immersion, visual and audible indicators, and multiple fixing options, the sMRT V300-XI supports faster, more efficient MOB detection and recovery. The beacon also meets enhanced Class-M requirements for two-way communication, ensuring the MOB is aware their distress signal has been received.

The commercial-grade beacon can be combined with the sMRT SARfinder to provide a localized rescue when conditions demand it. The sMRT V300-X1 is available through Marine Rescue Technologies Inc. as part of Wescom Group’s global distributor network.
